Syracuse has a number of clearly defined cultural areas.... German, Italian, etc. But none is as infamous as the Irish area. Decades ago they rioted on St. Paddy's and turned the traffic light upside down so that green was on top vice the normal red. Anyone, including DOT officials who thought twice about correcting things were dissuaded quickly by those who made the change. Ultimately the State and City relented and the light has remained that way for a good number of decades. There's even a question in one of the various NY State driver's license exams asking if red is always on top of traffic lights :)

Here's a shot of Tipperary Hill showing that light. Coleman's Irish Pub is located close by as well with it's landmark tiny door for little leprechans to enter for a wee nip or three :)
Obviously celebrating St. Patrick's in this area is an experience not to be forgotten!

I hail from an eastern suburb so "yes!" Snow runs from 180 inches a year up compared to less than 30 where I am now.

St Paddy's Day is usually a blur given all the partying that goes on.

I'm from Savannah, largest St. Patrick's Day celebration anywhere. Usually over 100,000 visitors! One year they dyed the Savannah River green with tons of food dye. Dumb fucks, but fun...
