Got a call last month - seems an old friend just purchased one of the eleven C5-R Corvettes originally produced from the Selleslagh Racing Team (SRT) - the car had just arrived here from Belgium. Have yet to see it myself - will get over to his shop shortly to look it over and snap some photographs. SRT has since moved-on to a C6.R - rule changes and all.

Dave sent me a few snapshots he took this week Ė very nice though I hope to do a bit better (I think the paint and logos on the car now are those when originally campaigned by Ron Fellows - not sure)Ö.

A nice cutaway drawing I found ....

A nice summary of the C5-R online ....

You can do a Google search for "C5R-005" or "C5-R Chassis 005" to get some more info. Or take a ride around Le Mans on YouTube ....

Looks like fun to me - no test rides tho' ;) ;)

Will post a few shots later.

I donna' know ;)

>700 BHP (427 engine), lightweight (~2600 lbs, C/F bodywork), trick handling ....

Was fast enough to win a few championships I suppose.

Here is a very old article I found ....

Very cool car. Seems like either he was holding back a little or the car is a little weak in the top end. Seems to handle the turns quite well though. I'll bet it would be a blast to drive.

A truly magnificent race car. I have two 1/18 scale diecast models of the first C5-R...

Looks kinda' slow and easy doesn't in though. ;)

But the C5-R's are pretty dang fast - lacking nothing on the top end. Those big V8's just lay the power down low.

From 2001 .... "The C5-R also took its first victory at Le Mans, finishing eighth overall and 34 laps ahead of the closest competitor in their class." And the C5-R won Le Mans again in 2002.

PS: My lowly Yamadog still beats it on power/weight tho' - but would never come even close on any road course. You can bet I'll snap some side-by-side photos of them yellow things for grins.

I'm sure it kicks ass. The driver in that video seemed to be holding back or the car was lacking top end because the competition was really pulling away from him on the straightaway. He caught up at the turns and seemed to have as good if not better control on the turns. The car is really neat and Iíll bet itís a blast to drive. (Better than anything Iíll ever drive for sure.) :)

I look forward to seeing more pics. Hopefully your friend will invite you over soon so you can get us all the details.
