America's Best Burgers ...

America's Best Burgers - Slideshows - Travel + Leisure
"The Burger: Burger Joint is a retro, 50s-style indie chain with five locations in the Bay Area. In keeping with the righteous NoCal foodie movement, the old-fashioned burger here is grilled to order with hormone- and pesticide-free natural beef from Niman Ranch and is served on a toasted sesame bun with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickle slices."

looks good. there was a diner here in nashville that I think would have em beat though. ;) definitely no question the BEST burger Ive ever had. And im a fella who likes his cheeseburgers :HUGE GRIN:

Pistolero 06-02-2010 08:39 AM

Thanks for posting that. My daughter ate at the Memphis one a couple of weeks ago.

I think I may have to go to Rotier"s here in Nashville today now. Their burger on French bread has consistently been named best burger in Nashville for as long as I remember.

Then again, parking"s a bitch there, so it might be Five Guys. LOLOLOL

Pistolero 06-02-2010 08:41 AM

You referring to Brown's Diner on Blair? I've never been there. Hmmmm, I might be over near there today anyway.

Derek 06-02-2010 09:05 AM

Browns is awesome....but Rudi's on music valley drive beats the hell outta browns.

Vandy is out now so parking should be better.
Where is Five Guys in Nashville? I know there is a new one in Smyrna next to Toot's. I want to try them soon. Red Robin is pretty good.

Derek 06-02-2010 09:08 AM

IMHO, 5 guys is just as good as Rotiers.....minus the atmosphere...

Pistolero 06-02-2010 09:09 AM

Never heard of Rudi's, but I almost never go to that part of town.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 09:11 AM

There's a couple of Five Guys in town. One is on West End, but I always go to the one in Green Hills in the Hill Center. It's across the parking lot from West Elm across from the Whole Foods.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 09:12 AM

There's a Five Guys in Cool Springs now.

Derek 06-02-2010 09:13 AM

it closed down about 6 months ago......sad.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 09:14 AM

Apparently, I wasn't the only one then.

I may have to check them out one afternoon after I pick my wife up at work. She works in the McGavock Pk/Elm Hill Pk area so It's just a few miles away.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 09:49 AM

I think he said they closed a few months ago Dave.

richj 06-02-2010 10:00 AM

Red Robin is good for a chain. Five Guys is a rip-off, and a massive heart-attack in a bag.

We got a few Five Guys burger joints in the area a few years ago. We had heard of them before, and so decided to go with the family. Big mistake.

1.) No "value meals", everything was seperate. Not what you want to hear when you have a family of 4 to feed. (2 kids)
2.) Greasy, fatty, dripping with nasty greasy shit. No thanks.
3.) Did I mention nothing but fucking grease?
4.) Cost me 35.00 for lunch - fuck that!!!

We went there once when they first opened, as did everyone else. It's located across the street from the largest Burger King in the northeast. (I've heard this from several sources). We've never been back, and now the parking lot is deserted. You smell that Burger King hit you when you walk out the door and immediately crave a Whopper.

I'm sure the "Best Burger" award goes to some indie out in Homo-Fornia, and that's fine. But as far as chains, I'd day Red Robin is up there. Great flavors, nicely cooked, not greasy, and you still get "bottomless fries" with your meal at a decent price.

Fuck Five Guys. Those Five Guys can shit sliders all day long if they want and then drop dead from a coronary; I'm not.

BS! I don't equate dripping with grease with "juicy". I've NEVER had a Red Robin burger that was "dry".

I like my meat well done, but juicy, not DRY.

And no, I don't equate "juicy" as equal to dripping with fucking grease.

Overflowing fries and GREASE.

How the fuck can you guys eat that shit?

I like meat, flavor, juices.....not grease, which is what Five Guys puts out. Nasty!!

Derek 06-02-2010 10:46 AM

How do you get a burger well done and still juicy?
You add tons of fat....

Lean meat will be dry if its well done.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 10:52 AM

Seems the "Best" guys don't agree with you. That place in Memphis, it's claim to fame is dropping the burgers in a cast iron skillet filled with 100 yr old grease. Fat is where the flavor comes from in foods. Pork fat rules!

Pistolero 06-02-2010 10:55 AM

Two people can easily share a regular fries at Five Guys. Their large one is appropriate for a family of four. If you bought more than one order of fries, you're an idiot.

You can't compare BK to FG's hand formed never frozen meat patties. Remind me to never take food recommendations from you.

I can take or leave Red Robin. The main reason I can leave it is because it's always really noisy inside and always full of fucking kids.

Derek 06-02-2010 11:02 AM

and idaho potato freh cut fries cooked in peanut oil....with malt vinegar....mmmmmm.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 11:09 AM

I'll have to try the malt vinegar on the fries. I've only used it on fish (& chips).

One bad habit I picked up on a trip to Amsterdam is dipping fries in mayo. :D

Derek 06-02-2010 11:16 AM

where I grew up, when you went to a fast food place (mcdonalds, bk, etc) and you ordered fries, they asked if you wanted ketchup or fry sauce....man I miss that.

Fry sauce is basically ketchup and mayo mixed together...i add just a touch of pickle juice and pepper....fuckign incredible with fries or onion rings.

Pistolero 06-02-2010 11:21 AM

Never heard of it. Must have been an Idaho thing.
